Oracle Linux is recommended distribution for Oracle applications to provide the most secure, scalable, and reliable solution for your mission critical workloads. Oracle Linux 9 (OL9) version was released on November 2022, and till date it’s reached to version OL9.2 with several new features, changes & improvements.

Step 1 : Download Oracle Linux 9 ISO file
Download Oracle Linux, navigate to ISO images and download the image of your preference.
Following are the ISO Images available to download:
- Full ISO : Contains everything
- UEK Boot ISO : Contains everything with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK)
- Boot ISO : Contains everything with Red Hat compatible kernel (RHCL)
- Source ISO : contains sources for the packages included in Full ISO

Step 2 : Create a bootable media
Now convert ISO image to bootable media with the help of Rufus, Unetbootin and Balena Etcher tools.
Step 3 : Begin Oracle Linux 9 Installation
Insert Bootable media and reboot your system, make sure booting sequence is changed to bootable media. you will seen with the following screen. Select “Install Oracle Linux 9.1.0” and hit enter.
Select Language
Select the appropriate language and click on “Continue“.
Installation summary
You will be presented with an installation summary. Make the necessary changes in highlighted tabs.
Software selection tab
Once you click on software selection, you will be presented the following screen. Under this there are two tabs “Base Environment” and “Additional software for Selected Environment“. Select the “Base Environment” which suits to your environment also you may select the additional software from “Additional software for Selected Environment” tab and click on “Done”.
Installation Destination
Under this tab, you will find the size of the Disk, on the “Storage Configuration“, there are two options “Automatic” and “Custom“. As name suggested when you select “Automatic“, partition will be performed by the system for you. Select this option if you are new and want to learn and explore it. For those, who want to set the partitions of his/her choice may opt “Custom” and follow the below steps. Click on “Done“.
Manual Partitioning
We will be creating minimum required partitions as below.
- /boot [1024 MB recommended size]
- SWAP [twice the size of physical RAM if lesser than 2GB]
- biosboot [1024KB]
- / [remaining size]

Click on “Accept Changes” for partitions.
Set root password
Network & Host Name
In this tab, we are going to set Hostname and IP Address on the system. Note: This can be done after successfully installation also. Click on “Done“.
Installation Summary
You will be presented the following Installation Summary. Verify all the setting and click “Begin Installation” to start the installation of Oracle Linux 9 on your system.
Installation is started, this may take sometime. Be patient till successfully completion. Remove Installation media and click on “ Reboot System”
Step 4 : Oracle Linux 9 Desktop post installation
Follow the post installation screen and you will see the following desktop screen.
