openSUSE Leap 15.1 Installation with Screenshots

openSUSE Leap 15.1 was released on May 22, 2019, it’s one of the leading Linux distro freely available that suits for your laptops, desktop and servers.  openSUSE Leap 15 is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE), in this article, we are going to see simple steps involve to install openSUSE Leap 15.1 with screenshots.

System Requirements

 

1. 2Ghz dual core processor or better
2. 2GB system memory
3. 40GB of free hard drive space
4. Either a DVD drive or USB port for the installation media
5. Internet access is helpful, and required for the Network Installer

 

Step 1: download openSUSE Leap 15.1 ISO file.

 

Step 2: Create a bootable disk with downloaded ISO file.
Step 3: Restart your system after inserting the bootable DVD/USB, change booting sequence if necessary. Choose installation options to install it on hard disk.
Step 4: Choose Language, keyboard layout and go through License Agreement.
Step 5: Hardware initialization and checking before installation. If you have a good internet connection choose Yes, this will activate online repository for you.

 

Step 6: We have chosen Desktop with GNOME, you may choose as per your choice.
Step 7: Device partitions. There are some options available such as “Guided Setup“, “Start with Current proposal” and “Start with Existing partitions“. In “Guided Setup”, you will get a LVM (Logical Volume Manager) options. With “Start with Current proposal” is auto partitioning scheme. We have chosen “Start with Existing partitions” for manual partitions.

 

Step 8: Here, we are going to create three partitions.
1. /boot
2. swap
3. / (slash or root) 
choose device sda and select partition tab and click on “Add Partition”.
Step 9: Creating BOOT BIOS partition.
Step 10. Choose “Operating System”
Step 11. Select partition ID “BIOS BOOT” and select “Do not mount device“.
Step 12: Creating SWAP partition of size 2GB.

Step 13: Choose “Swap”
Step 14: Select partition ID “Linux Swap”.

 

Step 15: Creating “/” partition of remaining space.

 

Step 16: Choose “Operating System”

 

Step 17: “/” Partitioning continue.
Step 18: Verify partition created, you can modify the partition clicking on modify button. Click on “Accept” to continue.
Step 19: Select Region and time zone of your location.
Step 20: Create Local User, you can skip also.
Step 21: Verify Installation settings and click Install to begin installation.
Step 22: Installation Confirmation.

 

Step 23: Installation Started. Remove bootable media.

 

Step 24: Post installation screen.
Step 25: We have successfully done installation of openSUSE Leap 15.1
