Fedora 31 Workstation Installation Guide with Screenshots

Fedora Linux 31 was released in the month of October 2019.  Fedora Linux distribution develop by community supported by Fedora Project and sponsored by Red Hat Inc. In this post we are going to see how we can perform the Installation of Fedora 31 Workstation. From Fedora Version 30, there are five editions are available which are followings.

  • Fedora Server – This is the server editions.
  • Fedora Workstation – This version is targeted for Laptop and Desktop users, GNOME is the default desktop environment.
  • Fedora CoreOS – This version meant for deployment in cloud computing.
  • Fedora IoT – It is to run on Internet of Things devices.
  • Fedora Silverblue – Targeted users who want an immutable desktop and developers who use container based workflows.
Step 1: There are several downloadable media type available. Please download which suits for your requirement. Here, we are downloading Fedora 31 workstation Live ISO file from Fedora Workstation download page. You can play around and see preview of fedora before installing it this is the advantage of downloading and installing from the Live ISO file. Boot from bootable DVD/USB device. Below is the installer screen after booting from bootable media.

Step 2: In the below screen, you can Try Fedora it out before installing it on Hard Drive. Else click Install  to Hard Drive to install it on Hard Drive.

Step 3: Choose Language during installation.

Step 4: Select correct Keyboard layout and Time, Date and Region.

Step 5: Select Region and click on “Done“

Step 6: Once we Click on Installation Destination below screen will be shown. From Storage Configuration tab choose “Automatic” partition scheme, then installer will create the necessary partition for your system automatically but if you want to create your own customize partition scheme then choose “Custom” option.

 
Step 7: Manual Partitioning, we will do standard partition with three partitions (“/boot”, “/” and “swap”). You can choose for LVM if you are experience users.

Step 8: Verify created partition and click on “Done” 

Step 9: Click on “Accept Changes” to continue

Step 10: Below INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen shows once INSTALLATION DESTINATION is selected. Click Begin Installation button to proceed Installation of Fedora Linux 31.

Step 11: Installation complete, remove bootable media and click “Finish Installation“.

Step 12: After installation screen.

Step 13: In below screen, you can sync your accounts else skip it.

Step 14: About You, In this screen provide the details which is used as user name to login into the system.

Step 15: Set a password, this will use to login to the system.

Step 16: We are now ready to use Fedora Linux 31

Step 17: Start using Fedora Linux 31.
