Debian Project has announced the release of Debian 10 codename “Buster” on 06 July 2019. Debian Linux Distro’s is based on GNU/Linux build, like other Linux distributions it’s free and open source. It is freely available for download and popular in server and desktop. Debian 10 contains 57,703 packages which supports UEFI Secure Boot, AppArmor enabled by default, Wayland for GNOME by default. Latest minor update is version 10.2. In this post we will go through pictorial installation of Debian 10.2 Server version steps by steps.
Some of the new features are as follows:
- Kernel version 4.19
- LibreOffice 6.1
- Plasma 5.14
- KDE Applications 17.08
- VLC 3.0
Step 1: Download the ISO file from here.
Let’s start the installation
Step 2: Boot with bootable DVD/USB/ISO file, once boot with bootable media will get the following screen and choose “Graphical Install”.
Step 3: Select a language of your choice.
Step 4: Select you location based on this timezone will be set.
Step 5: Choose the keyboard layout.
Step 6: Enter hostname for this system.
Step 7: Enter your domain name of your choice.
Step 8: Set root password, this is required during login in the system after installation.
Step 9: Setup username and password for normal user. Click on “Continue”.
Step 10:Starting the partitioning tool.
This is the bit complicated for new user.
Partitioning method:
Guided – use entire disk : Uses full disk creates required partitions.
Guided – use entire disk and set up LVM : Uses full disk and creates partitions usig LVM.
Guided – use entire disk and set up encryptd LVM : Uses full disk and creates partitions with encrypted LVM.
Manual – As name suggested, this is for experience users. Need to create partitions manually.
I have used “Guided – use entire disk” for simplicity.
Step 11: Select the disk for partitions and click on “Continue”.
Step 12: Here, we have selected “All files in one partition”. You may choose the other options.
Step 13: Partitions Disks. Click on “Continue”.
Step 13: Click on “No” to scan another DC or DVD.
Step 14: Click on “Yes” to write changes to disk.
Step 15: Followings are the final disk layout.
Step 16: Installation is in progress.
Step 17: During the installation, Package manager may ask you to check another CD or DVD. Click on “No” to proceed.
Step 18:Click on “No” ignore to use a network mirror.
Step 19: Choose “No” to to Participate in the package usage survey.
Step 20:Select software of your choice and click on “Continue”.
Step 21: After selecting the software, installation started.
Step 22: Click “Yes” for GRUB boot loader installation.
Step 23: Select partition to install GRUB boot loader.
Step 24:Installation is complete. Click on “Continue” to reboot the system.
Step 25: Booting your system with newly installed Debian 10.2
Step 26:Login with normal user created during installation.
